Immiboards ― Canada Express Entry welcomed the new year by issuing 250 invitations to candidates under Express Entry draw# 171. Eligible candidates had provincial nominations as of January 6, 2021.

Canada conducted another round of invitations under Express Entry Draw 172 on January 7, 2021, whereby it issued 4750 invitations to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class.

Express Entry draw 171 (January 6):

The IRCC invited provincial nominee candidates with a minimum CRS score of 813 points.

Candidates who receive a provincial nomination get an additional 600 points. Hence, the cutoff appears to be higher than the normal range.

Express Entry draw 172 (January 7):

The IRCC invited Canadian Experience Class candidates with a minimum CRS score of 461 points.

Under the Canadian Experience Class program, the candidates have to demonstrate that they have worked in Canada under an eligible NOC code for a minimum period of one year.

IRCC applied the tie-breaking rule to both the draws as well.

The date and time of cutoff for Express Entry draw 171 (PNP) was November 2, 2020, 11:11:52 UTC.

The date and time of cutoff for Express Entry draw 172 (CEC) was September 12, 2020, 20:46:32 UTC.

With these two draws, Canada has issued a total of 5000 invitations to apply in the new year. These two draws have suggested that Canada may invite more candidates who are already present in Canada.

The situation is similar to the previous year, whereby IRCC invited only PNP/CEC candidates for an extended period between March 2020 and August 2020 under Express Entry.

Express Entry is Canada’s online system of managing immigration applications.
Express Entry manages applications for the three key economic immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

In the previous year, Canada invited a record 107350 candidates under the Express Entry system.

Canada set to invite more than 400,000 immigrations in 2021. Canada has a goal to invite over 1.2 million immigrants over the next three years. Refer to Canada immigration target 2021-2023.
