Alberta Covid Response and impact on Alberta AINP

Last year from the allotted quota of 6,250 nomination certificates received from IRCC, Alberta used only 4,000 nomination certificates due to pandemic induced economic slowdown.

Alberta stopped issuing invitations after June 17, 2020 in response to the pandemic driven slowdown.

As Alberta current policy, it is inviting only inland candidates who are currently living and working in Alberta. It is expected that Alberta will start inviting outland candidates in second half of current year.

Alberta AINP is very popular for international applicants due to is lower CRS requirement as it helps receive nomination from Alberta faster than other provinces.

However, Alberta has not invited any outland candidate after June last year due to current labour market situation.

Government is prioritizing inland candidate as part of it’s AINP Covid response plan. As on November 20, most positions in Alberta are not eligible to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment.

Candidates who wish to apply for Alberta Express Entry stream must first create an Express Entry profile since Alberta AINP chooses the candidates from the Express Entry pool.

Alberta PNP currently does not have information on the number of nominations it can issue in 2021.

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs are extremely popular with applicants as it provides a certain pathway to Canadian permanent residence with 600 points.
